In Shiquan Street of southern Suzhou, there is a small garden: Master-of- Nets Garden. Master of net means good fisher and the name of garden is the reclusive fisher’s residence. Among all the famous and charming gardens, this one is the smallest one. Yet it is the representative type of architecture of feudatory’s official houses. All the decorations and designs show the nobility of the owner. Some one appraised this garden, although the garden is tiny, it gives you endless fun of rambling in it. Besides the typical southern style houses, corridors and rockery, this garden is a good place for appreciating the unique local art show: Ballad Singing in Suzhou Dialect.
This art show is combination of two art forms: story telling in Suzhou dialect and singing on the lute and traditional instrument with three strings. The singer meanwhile is the instrument player.
